Windows app + Chrome / Edge / Brave / Firefox

Quiet cleaner. Quiet download guard.

ClearTray lives in the Windows tray and uses Defender and Disk Cleanup. ClearTray Shield is the optional browser extension that guards against ads, trackers, and risky file downloads — not a virus scanner. Published and owned by www.locallinemedia.co.uk.

Windows app

One small program in the notification area. Shield colour is health: teal when Defender is fine, amber when signatures are stale, red if Defender is off or a threat is waiting. It stays quiet in games and full screen, and shows what is using disk space.

Protect

Quick Defender scans and signature updates. If a scan finds a threat, ClearTray tells you and can open Windows Security.

Clean

Temps, recycle bin, browser cache and history (passwords kept), old Windows Update files, and startup apps. Full clean can take a restore point first.

Stay current

The Windows app checks this site and installs updates by itself. USB copies stay portable.

ClearTray Shield

Optional extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox. It blocks ads and trackers, and stops risky file types from landing on your PC while you browse.

  • Blocks .exe, .scr, .bat, .cmd, .js, .vbs, .msi and similar from websites
  • Catches double extensions such as invoice.pdf.exe
  • Shows a notification and keeps a short list in the popup
  • ClearTray.exe from this site is allowed so you can still install the app
  • Checks this site for updates. With the Windows app running, it can apply them for you

This is not a virus scanner and does not look inside files. Windows Defender still does that. Turn Block risky downloads off in the popup if you genuinely need to save an installer from another site.

How to use the Windows app

  1. Download ClearTray.exe and run it. On a PC it installs to Programs and the Start Menu. On a USB stick it stays on the stick.
  2. Look for the shield in the notification area. Double-click for status, right-click for scans and cleanup.
  3. Optional: start with Windows, weekly quiet temp clean, restore point before full clean, and stay quiet in games.
  4. Leave it running. It checks for app and Shield updates shortly after start, then every few hours.

Admin approval is only needed for full scans and deep cleanup. Weekly quiet clean uses your user temps only.
